  • Year of creation: 1990 (in the same year were realised the first imports of Limousine heifers, however A.I. bulls imported from France were used in commercial „experimental“ crossing before 1990)
Breeder members of the Limousin breeding programme:
  • Number of breeder members: 138 (registered in Herd-Book)
  • Number of purebred Limousin cows by breeder member: 3.453 (as to 30.6.2022)

Definition of purebred Limousin breed standard:

The main goal of Czech selection program for Limousine breed remains the effort to develop a population of animals of a modern type of beef cattle, combining excellent beef productivity, while maintaining an easy calving, adaptability to the natural environment, good maternal qualities and high grazing ability. The effort will be to achieve these goals by using the best domestic genetics as well as top A.I. bulls from country of origin and the other EU countries:

  • consolidation of maternal characteristics - production of high-quality females that are used in the purebred population
  • increasing the growth capacity and beef performance - production of animals suitable for commercial crossbreeding units
  • polled genetics - in line with the worldwide trends of breeding genetically polled cattle the aim is to continue to improve overall qualities of polled animals

Purebred Limousin cattle registered in the Limousin herd-book:

  • Number of alive purebred Limousin cows registered in the herd-book: 3.453 (as to 30.6.2022)
  • Number of alive purebred Limousin cows within total alive Limousin cows population: cows 100 % LI = 5.468; cows 75-99 % LI = 12.836; cows 50-75 % LI = 17.920; cows 0-50 % LI = 4.129
  • Number of purebred Limousin cows that are double muscle allele carriers (nt821, Q204X… except F94L/F94L): based on SNP analyses we have NO carrier cows with nt821 and Q204X (1 bull is Q204X heterozygous carrier and 23 bulls nt821 heterozygous carriers)
  • Percentage of purebred Limousin cows that are polled allele carriers: based on SNP analyses we have 30,5% horned cows, 56,6% cows are heterozygous polled and 12,9% homozygous polled

Reproduction:

  • Within all calves born from purebred Limousin sire and purebred Limousin dam, the percentage of calves from natural mating: 78,3 % (21,7 % A.I.)
  • Percentage of first calving at around two years old, for purebred Limousin cows: 7,5 % until 31 months, 39 % between 32-35 months, 38 % between 36-39 months, 10,1 % between 40-47 months, 5,9 % over  48 months

Number of performances recorded: 1498 male calves + 1460 female calves
